Spring into the Cellar
April 5-6, 12-13, 19-20, 26-27
Sat 12noon-5pm, Sun 12noon-5pm
Cygnus Wine Cellars, located at 3130 Long Lane in historic Manchester Maryland, is gearing up for the 2008 Barrel Tasting event, ‘Spring into the Cellar’. Cost is $5.00 per person and reservations are not required.
Spring has Sprung! Everyone is invited to Spring into the Cellar this month and join in a tasting of new wine from the barrels and tanks, in the neverending mission to help wine consumers learn more about wine.
What, may you ask, can be learned from a barrel tasting? What are you going to get for your 5 bucks? Well, Ray Brasfield, the owner and winemaker at Cygnus Wine Cellars states, “What I offer both the wine enthusiast and the novice wine drinker is the chance to taste individual wines in their youthful state, before they are blended and bottled. Often as customers taste through wines during the normal retail room tastings, I will describe the wines and their individual components, as many of the Cygnus wines are blends. Many customers profess no expereince with some of these wines, perhaps not even having heard of the variety before. This is your chance to learn what these varietal wines taste like, and for some of them, taste them from multiple vineyards and see how ripening under different conditions can affect the resulting wine”.
No reservations are required. Every Saturday and Sunday in April, the barrel sampling tours begin at 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm. Following the barrel sampling, the current wines will be available to taste prior to your purchase. You are welcome to bring your own picnic lunch, sit out on the deck, and enjoy your afternoon. Wine is available for purchase by the glass, and an artisanal cheese plate is offered for $6.00.
